摘要:
Six supercomputer centers, seven regional academic computer networks, and a number of other research networks across the country can now talk to each other faster than ever. An updated National Science Foundation Network, known as NSFNET, went on-line July 27 with the fastest data transmission capability of any nonprivate network in the country. The network can now transmit at a rate of 1.5 million bits per second. That's the equivalent of ∼50 pages of single-spaced, typewritten text every second and is nearly 30 times faster than the old network.
