The author comments on the relationship between electronic commerce and virtual organization (VO). He believes that a salient part of e-commerce is organized through VO which he considers a powerful factor. He adds that VO can be understood in terms of interorganizational electronic network which renders non-standard products. Lastly, he points on the different aspects of the relationship between the two by citing examples of supply chain and mobile teen consumer and prosumer.

Although e-business is a familiar part of the organizational landscape, its implementation remains a problem for large traditional organizations. This paper argues that the pervasiveness of e-business calls for the adoption of an organizational change perspective to study its implementation. Using structuration theory, the paper analyzes a detailed case study of the implementation of a major e-business initiative in a traditional automotive manufacturer. It shows how a combination of structural contradictions and unexpected consequences derailed the initiative.

The focus of the research is to study the dynamics of electronic commerce propagation caused by organisational characteristics in small organisations. A model of opinion dynamics and verbalisation process for studying the receptivity of electronic commerce in small organisations in Slovenia is proposed. The methodology is based on cellular automata approach, diffusion theory, small organisations characteristics and studies on factors affecting electronic commerce introduction and usage in small organisations. The decision of an organisation whether to adopt electronic commerce or not is based on its attitude towards electronic commerce and impressions gathered from interactions with other organisations. Different characteristics of organisations were defined according to the data gathered by interviews and a survey. Several types of electronic commerce diffusion dynamics are evident from the data gathered. The most likely scenario of electronic commerce diffusion among small organizations in Slovenia predicts a decrease in organizations that are less mature in e-commerce and the increase in more mature organizations by 6-8% by the end of year 2006. Across many industries, e-commerce generates substantial modifications in supply chain structures. The aim of this article is to assess different forms of existing organizations when a store-based sales network coexists with a web site order network. Three main organizational models can be detected: "store-picking", "dedicated warehouse-picking" and "drop-shipping". We use a "newsboy" order policy model to compare the advantages of these different models and to note the impact of some parameters on inventory and flow management policies throughout the supply chain. Several effects are presented, particularly those linked to the size of the Internet market in relation to traditional market size and market demand hazards.
